Sun City

Sun City offers a wonderfully peaceful yet active lifestyle, with a variety of homes and activities designed to fulfill the many needs for retirement living. Founded in 1960 by the Del Webb Development Company as a retirement community, the City now boosts a population of 45,000 people. The wide varieties of home offerings meet every need, from Single Family Homes to Patio Homes, Duplexes and Condominiums. Home prices range from the low $50,000s to more than $225,000.

The climate is excellent for retirement living, with 312 sunny days a year, and an annual rainfall of about 7 ½ inches. It does get hot in the summer, but the humidity ranges from 10 to 40 percent most days.

Residents have all the facilities needed to enjoy retirement living. The community offers 11 golf courses, with three of those private country clubs. Seven recreation centers offer swimming pools and facilities for the more than 140 charted clubs in Sun City.  At the Sundial Recreation Center there is also bowling, billiards, tennis and too many craft rooms to mention.

Golf carts are a common method of travel on city streets, are licensed and have all the rights of an automobile. The vehicles are used by residents for shopping, visiting and running the usual errands. The City boasts a number of shopping centers, and a variety of banks and stock brokerage firms, offering residents a number of choices for meeting those requirements. Residents with RVs also have access to storage facilities for a fee of $3.50 per foot per year, plus a $3 annual Travel Club fee.

The “Sun City Prides” is a volunteer group that assists in keeping the boulevards and medians in tip-top condition. Sun Citians take pride in their communities, which is evidenced by the cleanliness of the streets and the landscaping of their homes.

An extremely important consideration for residents are the many medical and dental facilities located in Sun City, especially the fully staffed hospital. Several other hospitals are nearby.

Sun City West

Located several miles West of Sun City, it was first opened to residents by Del Webb in 1978. Final construction was completed in the mid-1990s, and the City now has a population of 30,000. The City is also a self-contained community, with abundant facilities for continued education, volunteer work, enjoyment of crafts, sports, exercise, hobbies and recreation of all sorts. The wide variety of home offerings are designed to meet every need for retirement living, from Single Family Homes to Patio Homes, Duplexes and Condominiums. Home prices range from the low $70,000s to more than $400,000.

Sun City Grand

Sun City Grand is the most recent of the Sun Cities, having been opened by Del Webb in 1996. Located in the City of Surprise, the community contains 4,000 acres and will feature 9,800 homes and 17,600 adults when completed. The community is designed around a village center concept, giving it a small town charm.

The climate is excellent for retirement living, with 312 sunny days a year, and an annual rainfall of about 7 ½ inches. It does get hot in the summer, but the humidity ranges from 10 to 40 percent most days. 

The community features a large recreation center offering exercise facilities, a swimming pool, therapy pool and meeting rooms for the 35 chartered clubs. These clubs include a wide variety of sports and hobbies
